Tres novetats recomanades en anglès

Un dels objectius de la nostra xarxa de biblioteques és el servei a la diversitat d'interessos de tot el públic lector. En aquest sentit es procura tenir, a més d'una àmplia oferta en català i castellà, una mostra interessant de ficció en altres llengües, com ara anglès, francès i alemany. 

Avui us presentem tres de les obres en anglès que recomanem i que podeu trobar a la nostra biblioteca a Torroella de Montgrí. 

Hamnet (2021), de Maggie O'Farrell

L'autora ens porta fins a l'Anglaterra rural de finals de segle XVI per explicar-nos el succès que va  inspirar William Shakespeare a escriure una de les seves obres més cèlebres. Hamnet, però, és la història d'una dona forta i gens convencional a qui una pèrdua forçosa capgirarà la vida, i al mateix temps és també una història d'amor poc convencional i de somnis fets realitat. Una novel·la per estremir-se i per plorar amb algunes escenes aclaparadores, però narrades de manera bellíssima, impregnades d'amor per la família i per la vida. 

On a summer's day in 1596, a young girl in Stratford-upon-Avon takes to her bed with a fever while her twin brother looks for help. Their mother, Agnes, is over a mile away, in the garden where she grows medicinal herbs and their father is working in London. Inspired by the son of a famous playwright, Hamnet is a story of the bond between twins, and of a marriage pushed to the brink by grief.

Spring (2019), d'Ali Smith

Tercera entrega del quartet estacional creat per l’autora Ali Smith. Amb una arrencada potent ens interpel·la directament sobre les nostres necessitats i mancances. Amb un ritme frenètic i en un caos aparent ens parla de drets, llibertats, migració, política, societat… 

Spring has two central narratives. On the one hand, the story of Richard Lease, a filmmaker who has just lost a good friend and former colleague/lover. He contemplates a film project on a fictional relationship between the writers Katherine Mansfield and Rainer Maria Rilke. On the other hand, the  narrative of Brittany, who works at a detention centre for migrants where she unexpectedly meets a young girl named Florence. Like Richard, Brit and Florence also happen to board a train up north to Scotland. All of the characters in the novel eventually meet, engage in a number of conversations and relate stories to each other. 

Never (2021), de Ken Follett

Ken Follett torna al thriller amb una emocionant novel·la que imagina el que no es pot ni imaginar: la imminent amenaça de la Tercera Guerra Mundial. L'autor assegura que quan va començar a escriure aquesta nova novel·la no sabia com acabaria i que el lector tampoc ho sabrà fins a l’última pàgina. La novel·la està ambientada en l’actualitat i viatja des del desert del Sàhara fins als corredors del poder a les grans capitals del món.

A stolen US army drone. A shrinking oasis in the Sahara Desert. A secret stash of deadly chemicals. Each is a threat to the stability of the world but individually are problems taht can be overcome. In the diplomatic arena though, everyone will have a different way of dealing with such a threat.
